The first Piston Solid/Liquid Separation Device (PSD) [photograph on right and diagram below] was built in United Kingdom.

In 1996, UK Government Department of Trade and Industry granted a SMART award for development of the PSD.


In February 1999, United Kingdom Patent Office granted UK Patent No 2300576  for "Device for and method of treating liquids" - the PSD. for "Device for and method of treating liquids" - the PSD.
